Portfolios can provide a platform for reflective learning, as well as a mechanism to collect evidence of experiences. Experiences and evidence can also be shared with peers.
Introducing Mahara
Mahara is an e-portfolio system in which students can record ‘evidence of learning’ – such as essays, artwork or almost anything else that can be stored digitally. These things are known as artefacts in Mahara.
Mahara is, however, much more than just a place to store files. It also includes a blogging tool, providing students with a platform to record and reflect on their learning experiences, and social network facilities, allowing students to create online networks/communities.
To find out more about Mahara, and how to create an electronic portfolio, please see our quick start guide:
Mahara is being used across a number of programmes in Initial Teacher Training and Sport. If you would like to know more, or to discuss how it might be integrated into your programme/module – please get in touch.
