First things first, ensure you download an anti-virus program. There are many free software packages available that will reduce the chance of virus attacks. On the
software page you'll find a link to a popular choice in 'AVG' or 'Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE)'. Anti-virus packages must be kept up-to-date to guarantee that your laptop is protected against the latest viruses. MSE and AVG and many other anti-virus packages automatically update, giving you one less thing to worry about.
Without installing both an anti-virus and anti-spyware package on your system, you will not be able to connect to the Marjon network. You will also be required to keep both anti-virus and anti-spyware software up-to-date with the latest versions before you can connect. We recommend you use Microsoft Security Essentials which will take care of both! Help outlining how to connect to the wireless network can be found in the
guides section.
Regularly change your passwords, and never write them down. This will minimise the chances of someone logging into your network account and potentially damaging your files. It’s also a very good idea to complete the
‘Quest Password Manager’ form so that you can recover your password should you forget it.
DO THIS NOW! However, if you've forgotten your password and haven't completed the password reset form, you'll need to visit Computing Services and bring identification (e.g. library card) with you.
Backup important files on removable media such as CDs or DVDs. By doing this, you can always retrieve these files if you ever have a problem. More information regarding backups can be found in the
FAQs section.
